Mosaic’s CSA program has grown over the years from the seven shares they offered in 2018. In addition to education on food, Mosaic includes recipes with CSA pickups to inspire ways in which to cook with the food being received. “Nate (Hasler-Brooks) from Tine & Toil will deliver his CSA shares into neighborhoods that would not normally be getting them, and Emma (De Long) from Kneehigh Farm would come and teach classes in public housing areas.” “Not only are we providing food and supporting a local farm, but we are bringing those communities together on a personal level,” he said. They are also bridging a gap between the farmer and Pottstown residents. ![]() In addition to making healthy and freshly-grown food more accessible, Mosaic is supporting a local farm through their CSA program as well. ![]() “We ask that they give us a little donation every week to subsidize it, so there is that commitment return or buy in,” he said. While it’s not required, those in the CSA program are asked to give a weekly donation. If you have interest in getting a share, there are a few spots left and you can contact Mosaic to apply and fill out an application. “We give them to members of ours in addition to the produce they are growing as well as other people we support.” Shares available “We developed a program where we are able to purchase CSA shares,” Price said, adding they purchase the shares from Tine & Toil Farm in North Coventry. “We welcome anybody.”įor those who want access to healthy food, but aren’t interested in growing it or who can’t grow enough for their family, Mosaic has a CSA program they are expanding this year with the offering of 20 shares. “While we would like as much support from people who live in the borough as possible, we try to bridge the geographical divide sometimes,” Price said. You don’t have to be a resident of Pottstown to participate in Mosaic’s gardening program. Their main goal has always been to give access to eating healthy food. Over the years, ever since Mosaic was established in 2012, they have been able to grow their number of plots. “It’s about neighborhood revitalization and beautification and it’s part of our long-standing partnership with Mosaic and Building a Better Boyertown,” said Craig Colistra, Communications Specialist with Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation. Other ways in which Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation supports Mosaic is through an annual garden tour and contest. “The Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation’s funds go toward a good portion of that as well.” “We have shovels, rakes and gloves - all of the equipment,” he said. They also have tools handy for you to prep and tend to your garden. Mosaic offers growing and cooking education. If people can bring their own, great, and if not, we can provide.” “We get them donated and we purchase them as well. ![]() While people are encouraged to bring their own seeds to plant in their designated space if they have them, it’s not required. “She will work one-on-one with people and provides education.” Tools and seeds available ![]() “We have a garden manager who manages all the properties and she has 30 years of experience in working on farms and with plants,” Price said. Many growers are new to gardening and get support from Mosaic’s garden manager, Janet Freedline. Mosaic currently has up to 105 raised garden beds across five community gardens in Pottstown. “We can accommodate up to 15 more for the season.” Mosaic Community Land Trust has several gardens across the Pottstown community where residents can grow their own food. “We have signed up close to 40, but some people get more than one bed,” he said.
